CloverPit

Gambling like your life depends on it.

In most rogue-lites, when you die, you get to keep some of the items and abilities that you earned during the run. This allows for the next run to be a bit easier and allows you to make some progress, providing you with a good sense of accomplishment. However, in CloverPit, the most you get is the chance to get new charms, to try and help you with your next round of gambling.

The goal of CloverPit is simple: get the money to pay your debt, or pay the ultimate price for failing to meet the deadline. The only way to get the money to pay it off is gambling, more specifically, the slot machine. So your best bet is to spin the slots and hope for the best as you try and make your deadline.

Like with most slot machines, there are multiple symbols and patterns that you can roll to make money to pay off your debt. The higher the symbol and the more complex the pattern, the more you can make, like most slots. But at some point, you will meet a pattern that you wish you had never seen pop up on your spin.

After the first few deadlines are completed, you will be introduced to the dreaded 666 pattern. If at any point you spin this, you will lose all the money you made to that point in your spins. This is bad, but there are some things you can buy to help improve your chances of meeting the deadline, even when the odds are stacked against you.

During your time here, you will get Green Tickets that can be used in the shop on the other side of your room. This contains lucky charms, each with a different effect or triggerable ability. But at the start, your selection is limited to a handful of them.

As you progress in the game, you can unlock more charms to help you in the slots. You unlock them by meeting certain requirements or purchasing them from the lucky charm computer. The more charms you unlock, the more you can turn the tides in your favor, bringing you closer to your freedom.

Building synergy between your lucky charms is essential to meeting your deadlines on time. Finding ones that can increase the value and frequencies of your symbols and patterns is a must if you want to survive. But there is another way to increase to tip the scales in your favor, and that is the phone.

The phone will ring at the start of each deadline, but you won't know who is on the other end until you answer. Once you answer, you will get a few options, each with their own pros and cons. Pick the right one, and you may find your odds of escaping this hell increase.

Combining your lucky charms and phone calls is the best way to make the money needed to survive. But sometimes you can make more than is required. Wonder what happens if you meet the requirements of the next deadline before you reach it?

Visuals are close to those of games like Buckshot Roulette, pixilated style with an industrial vibe. It gives the atmosphere a dark and foreboding feel, which gives you a sense of dread. Making you wonder if you will ever get out of the situation you have put yourself in.

All said, CloverPit is a fun luck-based rogue-lite that requires strategies and careful planning to be able to beat. It is easy to pick up, and the quick attempts make for a fast and fun experience that many can enjoy. If you enjoy rogue-lite style games, I would recommend giving it a try, to see if you can get out of a hell of your own making.
