RTS Hero Early Access Impressions

RTS Hero is a refreshing take on the real-time strategy genre. Instead of just building up your home base and ordering your troops into battle. You can take control of your hero and fight alongside your men.

RTS Hero is impressively made by a single developer and is currently up on Kickstarter, looking for people to pledge and help make this product a reality. The Kickstarter currently needs 13,824 CAD to get backed and is sitting at 3,884. At the time of writing, the Kickstarter has around 15 days left. If you want to go help, click here.

Currently, there is not much to it, but it does show incredible potential in what it has and could yet offer. There are currently two campaign missions and a skirmish mode in the game. There are also six playable characters and four difficulty modes to choose from in the skirmish mode. Each hero has a different playstyle, so there is a hero for everyone.

Once you pick a hero and load in, the fun truly begins; time to conquer this new land. But first, you need to find the peak of the island and build your keep. As stated, you need to build a keep on the peak of the island, but that's not all. You must defend it for five minutes in order to win a skirmish. However, the wildlife and enemies don't make that easy. But that is always half the fun in RTS games, and in this one, you can be deep in that fight.

At any point, you can take control of the hero and play as him. This puts you right in the action and changes it to more of an action game with you in the pilot seat. This is a nice breath of fresh air as it breaks up the action, and is a nice change of pace for this type of game.

Being from a solo dev, the visuals are not high-quality like you’ll find in more polished and those of a bigger team, but they still look very good. They also help make the game what it is and build an engaging atmosphere that is fun to play in. And honestly, to me, graphics don't matter; it’s the gameplay that makes things fun. In all, RTS Hero has a lot of potential and room to grow into something wonderful. Remember, this is a Kickstarter with just around 15 days left, so if this is up your alley, go support the creator and help fund the game. I wish the dev luck and hope to see more of this game as it has a lot of potential in it.
