HYTE Y70 "Firefly Edition" PC Case Review

For roughly half a decade, HYTE has been delivering high-end PC cases, often with some impressive collaborations. From Metaphor, to Tokidoki, and Persona, finding a perfect case to match your favorite games never seems out of reach.

Of all the collaborative partners, miHoYo has offered some of the most visually striking of the lot, with the Silver Wolf and Encased Fortune cases being some of the most visually pleasing. However, just days ago, HYTE released their best one yet, the Y70 “Firefly” case.

Firefly is a character within Honkai: Star Rail, the 2023 turn-based gacha game from miHoYo, their follow-up to the widely successful Genshin Impact. Firefly is a member of the organization known as Stellaron Hunters, operating under the alias, SAM. While SAM was mentioned in 1.0 of the game back in 2023, it took a year later for her to make her first on-screen appearance in version 2.0 and finally became playable in version 2.3.

Firefly hails from the Republic of Glamoth, where she was developed as a weapon. As her nation was lost to her, she suffers from a chronic illness known as Entropy Loss Syndrome, which consists of chronic dissociation of one’s physical structure. However, despite having this illness and joining the Stellaron Hunters, Firefly journeys to seek out the meaning of life.

Depicted as a young girl, wearing clothes based on Japanese fashion known as Kogal, which resembles a school uniform, she also changes into her SAM form, which is more mechanical in nature. This makes her one of the few characters in the game who can switch between forms during battle.

Much like Firefly and her SAM form, this latest case is a mixture of colorful artistry and silver mechanical coloring, highlighted with aquamarine tones that make this case absolutely stunning. And, as the artwork is printed on the inside of the glass, it prevents the standard wear and tear that can occur from other cheaper-produced cases. This case is built to last, and the presentation and construction only aid in that.

The case is remarkably sturdy, and its 18.5” height makes it a very tall and noticeable rig on or below any desk. It’s also very easy to remove the top lid and two respective tempered glass panels to add in and adjust any components, complete with snapping them in place with no screws required.

Sturdy is easily the word I would use here, as the case is firm, slick, and feels built to house heavy components, and yet light enough to move around. The lid itself has a criss-crossing of thin bars and mesh that really makes it stand out. The silver and aquamarine aesthetic is also gorgeous inside, with a form-fitting rubber-like material between sections, and even closed port trays done in the coloring as well. It’s just as stunning inside as it is out.

The case also features 2 standard USB ports, a headphone jack, a power button, and a USB-C port on the front for ease of use, instead of placing them on the back.

As per the official HYTE website, it states the following features:

Massive 4 Slot Vertical Graphics

Y70 grows GPU support to 4 slots with additional airflow space between the edge of the card and the glass. This means you can fit even the largest and most powerful of graphics cards into your build with ease. Additionally, the cold floor cooling down below can house up to a trio of 120mm or duo of 140mm fans up to 32mm thick to direct fresh airflow straight into the GPU.

Included Luxury PCIE 4.0 Riser Cable

Included with the case is a luxury PCIE 4.0 x 16 riser with a color-matched canopy for uninterrupted visual flow that'll make for a painless GPU installation and build process. It also allows for a plethora of half-height PCIE cards to sit behind the throne of the vertical graphics.

Ginormous Cooling Capacity

A spacious interior makes room for up to a 360mm long & 125mm thick radiator on the side and an adjustable top bracket that can house another 360mm radiator up to 68mm thick up above. Working together with the cold floor cooling at the bottom and a spot for an additional fan at the rear of the case, Y70 has a total capacity of 10 fans in a fully populated chassis. With over 180mm of clearance to the side glass, air and water cooling enthusiasts alike will appreciate the flexibility afforded to them by the chassis to create the most robust cooling configurations possible.

Unified Modern Aesthetic

With 4 unique colorways, Y70 puts your build front and center with a beautifully crafted 3-piece panoramic glass, which serves as a window into the heart of your PC. The dual chamber interior layout keeps the front looking great while giving you plenty of space to manage cables in the back, especially with the help of our seamless L-shaped molded rubber grommet, meticulously placed cable routing channels & tie-down points, and reusable Velcro straps. All easily accessible with tool-less top and side panels alongside floating storage sleds that eject from the rear of the case for intuitive drive maintenance.

Feature lists aside, as this is based on the Y70 model that was released in February of 2024, not much has changed here. However, if you are coming in from the Y60 case, much has changed, including a 4th PCIe slot to which the Y60 only had three, making this a massive improvement and providing better thermals. One point of criticism, however, is that despite hosting a bigger price tag than the standard Y70, it still doesn’t include a fan, which was a criticism at the time, especially given that the Y60 came with three of them, and given other cases around that price point also provided them.

Another key feature of the Y70 that was celebrated at release was the vertical GPU slot that, unlike other cases, prevents your other PCI slots from being blocked. Thankfully, the Y70 includes this bracket, making it a breeze to install. Still, it would be a step up for the GPU to have a bracket to allow a rotation of the GPU, but that is something likely being saved for the Y80, should one be announced.

The specs of the Y70 Firefly Edition are as follows:

Being a dual-chamber case, the Y70 has a ton of room behind the motherboard tray for cable management, even with some velcro straps inside the case for assistance. In fact, the cable cutouts below the motherboard are far more accessible here as well and far more out of the way of the bottom fan mounts when compared to the Y60.

For HDD support, we’re looking at 2 3.5” drives, which could be disappointing to those who rely on a lot of storage for video editing or need to house a lot of games. However, if you have 2.5” drives, the casing can support up to a total of 4 drives. Now, regarding the type of drives, there is no vibrational dampening here, so the mounts and casing are designed more around SSDs.

Not set to just collaborate on the PC case, HYTE also has produced a Key Cap set as well as a full-size Desk Pad built around this partnership. Both of which are absolutely stunning.

The features for each are as follows:

Signature Highlights: The function row is intricately framed with Firefly’s signature aquamarine, designed to make core commands stand out at a glance

Striking Novelties: Modeled after the Strategic Assault Mecha, each novelty key symbolizes a choice: retreat with precision, or blaze a path to victory.

Durable by Design: Crafted from durable dye-sublimated PBT plastic, these keycaps resist shine and fading, ensuring your arsenal stays sharp through every mission.

Universal Coverage: With 252 caps in the base kit, this set fits nearly every battlefield layout: 40%, 60%, 65%, TKL, HHKB, 75%, full-size, split, and ergo boards.

Global Compatibility: Whether you fight under ANSI, ISO, JIS, or AZERTY, these Cherry profile, MX-compatible keycaps adapt seamlessly to your command center.

The Key Caps set also comes with additional Honkai Star Rail bonuses of: 60 Stellar Jade, Oak 3 Cake Rolls, and 30,000 Credits

The Desk Pad is also a visual treat as well, with its 35.43” x 15.75” size. Its stated features are:

Set the Seas Ablaze!: A vibrant 900 x 400mm canvas made to ignite your setup, showcasing Firefly’s perseverance and the Iron Cavalry’s legacy in striking detail. Big enough to anchor your command center, bold enough to carry you in battle

Impeccable Precision: Engineered with a silky smooth 28 SPI weave, our DP900 desk pad surface is fluid, responsive, and built for absolute control in every engagement

Initiate Clean Up: Spills and scuffs are not a problem. Reinforced stitching keeps the desk mat intact, keeping your battlefield spotless and ready for the next mission

As with the case and the Key Caps, it also features a Honkai Star Rail card that contains: 60 Stellar Jade, Oak 3 Cake Rolls, and 30,000 Credits, the same bonuses as the Key Cap set.

Select purchases for this case also provide the Firefly keychain, modeled after an in-game item. As a keychain fan, this one is just thick enough not to be flimsy or hard to grab with your keys. It’s perfect. The case also comes with a Honkai Star Rail bonus card that contains 100 Stellar Jade, Oak 5 Cake Rolls, and 50,000 Credits.

Rest assured that if you have all three, you’ll be rolling on credits and these items.

The Y70 is a marked improvement over the Y60, as it simply has some quality of life improvements that help this case stand out more for better thermals and build variety. The excess size of the case also allows for better cooling, and the tie straps also aid in phenomenal cable management that truly benefits the user.

While the Y70 comes in all sorts of collaborative colors and themes, the “Firefly” edition truly stands out with some fantastic color matching with its silver and aquamarine mixture, resulting in a truly phenomenal case that is only marred by the lack of included fans and no rotating apparatus for the GPU. Regardless, this is a truly impressive case that has seen improvements over the Y60 where needed.
