Cooperative Brinepunk First-Person Shooter Abyssus Out Today on PC

Abyssus, the highly anticipated debut roguelike 1-4 player co-op FPS from developer DoubleMoose and publisher The Arcade Crew, launches today - a brinepunk shooter set among an ancient underwater civilization. With almost 200,000 wishlists, Abyssus is set to make waves today on PC via Steam. Abyssus is currently available at a special discounted price of $21.44 (15% off).

Step into the role of a Brinehunter in either solo or co-op and traverse via submarine to the ocean floor to investigate a powerful electromagnetic source. Arriving at the source to discover an ancient, sunken city of a long-forgotten civilization, you’re thrust into the fast-paced FPS action of Abyssus as you face corrupted, lethal swarms of enemies armed to the gills with powerful weapons made of ancient tech utilizing the power of brine. Stranded, the only way through is deeper down…

Slice your way further into this chaotic underwater world to harness new weaponry, upgrades and mods to create the loadout of your dreams. Every weapon comes with six different modifications, allowing for the ultimate level of customization. In order to make it back to the surface, you’ll need to utilize the vast weapon modifications and ancient artifacts while adjusting your playstyle on the fly.

Pierce through enemies using the literal power of energy with satisfying guns like the plasma launcher, one of eight customizable weapons, and choose whether you want powerful, grenade-like strikes or rapid-fire, revolver-style shots. With a whopping 48 weapon mods, there’s plenty of variety to sink your fins into—no two loadouts feel the same.

No two runs are the same, either, as Abyssus was designed with a heavy focus on replayability: the game features strategic randomness with 150 blessings to amp your abilities, increase your damage and more. Abyssus also hosts 40 equippable charms and 124 forge mods, allowing you to enhance equipped abilities and weapons.

Divers wanting to go even deeper and support the developers can also grab the Brinehunter Pack today for $2.99. The pack includes a selection of dynamic cosmetic items so you can waste underwater enemies and look great while doing it:

  • The Sea-weathered Birdcage Helmet is the mark of a veteran Brinehunter, aka someone who cannot be bothered to clean their gear in between runs. Who says helmet-encrusted mussels aren’t a good source of high-quality protein?

  • Recycled by hand from our submarine’s wreck, this mussel-infused, sea-weathered frame is made from the finest heavily oxidized brass.

  • Get down (literally) and get funky with a unique dance, The Brineston, that invites you to shake it off 20,000 leagues under the sea.

Also available today is the Abyssus OST from EDM powerhouse Remi Gallego (Rematch, The Last Spell). Fans can grab this electro-fying soundtrack for $4.99 on Steam.

As DoubleMoose’s debut title, the development team has detailed plans for post-launch seasons and events, so players can be assured that Abyssus’ long-lost kingdom will keep you enthralled long after your first encounter with its mutated guardians. Inspired in part by games like Deep Rock Galactic, Warhammer: Vermintide 2 and Gunfire Reborn, DoubleMoose has created a rewarding, tight gameplay loop within a vast, detailed environment for a memorable, unique FPS experience that will leave your heart pounding.

And once you’re finished with your mission, the only way to truly celebrate is with a sea shanty with your teammates. With just the press of a hotkey, you’ll start to sing, "Iron, Steam & Brine!" Anyone who wants to join in can do so—a sea shanty only improves with each voice added to your chorus.
