Dark Alliance is back!

Appearing almost out of nowhere, Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance has hit PS4 and Xbox One, with the Switch release only delayed a few shorts days. The game, which is a 4K up-res of the original game, released nearly 20 years ago, will also hit PC and Mobile audiences later this year.

Dropped on PSN and the Xbox marketplace only a day after its announcement, this surprise release might in some ways be lightly connected to the Dark Alliance game coming soon from Wizards of the Coast, a co-op hack and slash reboot that allows players to revisit the fun and engaging world of Dungeons and Dragons. Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance for the PS2, Xbox, and GameCube was a kick-ass time back in the day, and despite the game not seeing any enhancements or gameplay tweaks, it’s still a fantastic hack and slash romp that remains incredibly satisfying to this day.

Priced at $29.99USD, the game is playable on all PlayStation and Xbox Platforms, despite there being no native PS5 or Series X/S versions. Given the game is simply a 4k port, it is understandable that we may not see any version upgrade to support the next-gen platforms. The game is supported only locally, however, given the game is coming out on mobile devices, one can only hope for some sort of patch to include online play, something the Champions of Norrath games brought with them back in the day.

Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance features three class and race combinations; the human archer Vhan, the dwarven fighter Kormlech, and finally, the elven sorceress Adrianna. You’ll have access to almost a dozen spells, twice that with several skills, and features over 40 monsters and bosses to slay.

Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance is available now.
