State of Play for Dec 10th, 19

Sony wrapped up 2019 with a series of announcements with a December State of Play today, revealing that the leaked Resident Evil 3 is, in fact, real, and will include the multiplayer spin-off, Project Resistance. We also got an update on a long-awaited 1st party Sony title, some DLC for Kingdom hearts, and much more.

What else was announced? Well, here is a summarization of everything Sony delivered as an early Christmas present.

Untitled Goose Game

The popular game is finally coming to PlayStation 4 on December 17th, just in time for Christmas. The game has previously only been released on the Nintendo Switch and will hit both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One Game pass on the same day.

Spellbreak

From developer Proletariat Inc, Spellbreak is a magic-based take on the battle royale genre. The trailer, as shown below, follows a group of players doing battle in and around a castle against a competing team. In many ways, this feels like a spiritual successor to Phantom Dust as it was giving me the same sort of vibes in how it’s both third person and each character has unique abilities. Spellbreak had an alpha-beta earlier this year on PC, and PlayStation 4 owners can get in on the founder’s edition as the beta hits the console next spring.

Dreams

Showed off a bunch of user-generated content as part of the beta that has been going on, Media Molecule has shown off the vast capabilities of what the software can achieve. The trailer, as shown below ends with detailing the release date for the full version of Dreams. Feb 14th 2020. Players will have a full campaign created by the developer to push through, as well as a host of user-generated games to dive into. Dreams might be a hard sell to market, but the potential of creating almost any genre will make it a title to keep a watch on.

Superliminal

Already released for PC, Superliminal comes to Playstation 4 next April, packed in what is sure to be an over-stuffed month. The game is a first-person puzzle game where you’ll manipulate items to use your perspective on them to solve puzzle. Check out the trailer below for some gameplay.

Paper Beast

From the creator of Another World, comes Paper Beast, an dynamic ever-changing VR eco-system where you’ll interact witha host of interesting creatures, solve environmental puzzles, and unlock the mysteries all around you. Paper Beast will release in Q! of 2020.

Kingdom Hearts 3L Re-mind

One of the most glaring omissions with Kingdom Hearts 3 was the total lack of Final Fantasy characters. With Re-mind, a large scale expansion for the popular game, will set that right, but it seems at the cost of everything Disney. While this may be due to Square Enix not wanting to pay licensing fees, it’s also unclear if this trailer was mean to focus on Final Fantasy characters such as Yuffie, Aerith, and Squall, and may end up including several of the Disney characters anyway.

Either way, the expansion hits all versions of the title on January 23rd, 2020.

Predator: Hunting Grounds

Also releasing in April, Illfonic has release a brand new trailer for their asymmetrical multiplayer game where a team of players will team up to attempt to take out the elusive Predator. The player who is the iconic hunter will be able to choose between male or female predators, unique classes and weapons such as a spear, combistick, or bow. They will be able to choose their own armor design as well, offering up some customization to the game. Check out the trailer below.

Babylon’s Fall

PlatinumGames and publisher SquareEnix have finally shown off more gameplay for their newest title. While more information will arrive next summer, we got a look at some unique gameplay moments detailing more information than we already knew. The game is very combat focused with the player using magical spectral blades as attacks, offering up the same feel we’ve come to expect from the developer. Check out the trailer below as the title will see a release for both Playstation 4 and Steam.

Resident Evil 3

While the game was leaked well before this announcement, Capcom has finally shown off gameplay for their long-awaited remake of Resident Evil 3. Using the same engine and gameplay focus as their Resident Evil 2 remake, players will follow Jill Valentine as she attempts to get to the bottom of what’s going on in her city. The game features all the heart-pounding action we’ve come to expect from Capcom, as well as partially new designs for all the game’s core characters.

The title will also contain the full multiplayer-focused Project Resistance as well, a game that has been shown off and entered into various beta releases in the past few months. The game will release on April 3rd of next year, in an already cramped month of high profile releases.

Ghosts of Tsushima

While we still don’t know when it’s coming out, or really any more details than we did a year ago, Sony offered up a very short trailer to make everyone aware that the game is still in production. Enjoy.
